A Letter From Charles Holt -- 1999-2000 SEMOSCA President
You might recall that the subject of my first president's letter this year was about beginnings. I asked that we begin by having informative workshops and meetings. I wanted all counselors to begin understanding the benefits of technology in our ever-changing positions at school. I encouraged all members to be involved and voice their opinions to help build our organization stronger. Well, the ending of my term in office as president is getting closer and I hope that each and every one of you feel as good about SEMOSCA as I do.
The Crisis Workshop was an excellent educational program from which many counselors received valuable information. Ann Cook and Sonie Trotter did an outstanding job in honing our skills and re-polishing ideas to work with crisis in school. And it was refreshing to me to have the American Red Cross seminar on first aid brought to our organization. It helped me to recall medical procedures of which I had forgotten over the years. The sponsors for our district meetings have been very generous and supportive. If you keep in contact with any of them, please give them another "thanks" for their interest in SEMOSCA.
The fall conference gave us the first Technology workshop in the history of MSCA. Several counselors from our district took advantage of this workshop and skills were upgraded by the session. Our web page has grown into something of which we should all be proud. One thing that I can attest to is the hours of phone calling I have saved through the list serv of the counselors' e-mail addresses on my computer. A big thanks goes out to all those who sent me addresses.
The Southeast Missouri School Counselor's Association is strong and solid. The current governing board has met and worked hard all year to keep the operations of the organization constant. We could not have had such a successful year had it not been for the heard work of the board. Thanks to each and every one of you.
And so I pass the gavel to Susan Nothdurft with knowledge that she will do an wonderful job as president. Knowing how I felt a year ago, she needs to know that we are all pulling to make our district the strongest in the state. We should continue to recruit other counselors, attend meetings and workshops, stay current with counseling trends and support her in any way that we are asked to help.
You are a wonderful group of people and I'm proud to be your fellow counselor. Thanks for a wonderful year and ending. See you in Las Vegas!
